"The Quinta do Outeiro house was not an easy project. In architecture, there are no easy projects. Here, the problem wasn't with the municipality, the engineers, or the client; it was solely ours. Our hesitation lay between restoring a farmhouse, with animal pens on the ground floor, to build a hotel. The alternative was to use the old stones, available and good material, to build a new house.
We hesitated, made models, moved forward, went back, and decided on a new construction, with the aforementioned old stones. Because, on second thought, we are in the 21st century.
The result turned out "just right." We use the word "just right," which belongs to the field of ethics, so as not to say it turned out "beautiful," which belongs to aesthetics, and might seem pretentious. The interior turned out well, with furniture chosen and designed by us, and some points of the exterior spaces were finished, which we did on site, to natural scale."
